An ancient ‘intaglio’ printmaking technique. Working directly from my sketches, I scratch out the design onto a wax coated zinc plate. The scratched out areas will be ‘bitten’ when the plate is placed in acid. Various techniques are used to create the line, texture, flat tones and sky patterns and a plate can take several days to prepare. It is then inked and hand-printed using a press which means that each number in the edition is in effect an original. Each print is signed and numbered at the front and is one of a small limited edition.
Materials: Somerset Satin paper 250g, Intaglio inks.
